“The Lord has sought out a man after His own heart,” (1 Samuel 13:14 ESV)
What does it mean to have a heart for God? According to today’s Scripture, God considered David as a man after His own heart; yet we know that David was imperfect and made serious mistakes with severe consequences for himself and his descendants. In this daily devotional, we will look at what Scripture says about having a heart for God.
Sold-Out to God
Having a heart for God means that He snapped you up and captured you for His purposes. You have given up all rights to yourself and are “sold-out” to Him. Hearts caught this way exhibit these qualities:
Humble before The Lord (Psalm 51:17).
Repents when convicted of sin by The Holy Spirit (Psalm 139:23-24)
Does not comprise God’s Word (Psalm 119:11).
Repeatedly demonstrates that “to live for Christ is gain” (Ephesians 1:18).
Filled with praise, worship, and adoration for God even during tough times (2 Corinthians 4:6).
Obedient to God’s Will (Deuteronomy 6:5).
Now, this may seem a daunting “to-do list,” but these qualities come forth when you are willing to serve God in His strength—not yours, use the spiritual gifts He provides—not just your talents, and focus your life on Jesus Christ—not on the world around you.
After reading the daily devotional, are you “sold-out” to God? If not, what is the next step God wants you to take?
Father, I desire to have a heart totally dedicated to You. Place within my spirit the desire to seek and be captured completely.
